Technical Questions
Q: Do I need to use 500k pots with TV Jones pickups?
A: Yes. We recommend 500k pots for all TV Jones pickups.
Q: I can't decide whether to go with the TV Classic or the Power'tron. What's the difference?
A: The TV Classic is our most versatile pickup, it's based on the original 1950's Filter'Tron pickup. If you want to fatten up the Classic use a tube-screamer or similar gain pedal. A TV Classic Plus (Bridge) is a good choice for extra punch. The Power'Tron has a thicker tone with more mids, The Power'Tron Plus (Bridge) is closest in tone to a PAF humbucker, but still retains the Filter'Tron vibe. You can hear sound clips of most of our pickups to help you decide.
Q: Which pickup will fit in my Gibson SG?
A: You will need either the TV'Tron Mount or the EM1 English Mount. Depending on the look you want, the TV'Tron Mount is the traditional Gibson-style humbucker housing and the EM1 Mount retains the Gretsch Filter'Tron look in a Gibson-style pickup ring with a Filter'Tron opening. Click here for a list of guitar models and which TV Jones mounting option works with these guitars.
Q: I already have Gibson-style pickup rings will they work with the English Mount?
A: No. We've molded custom Gibson-style pickup rings that have a narrower and longer opening to house the Fiter'tron-sized pickups. Traditional Gibson humbuckers are wider and shorter than Filter'trons.
Q: Which Mounting option will fit my Gretsch Electromatic 5120?
A: EM2 English Mounting option in chrome with silver bezels. You will need to drill new mounting holes for the Gretsch pickup bezels (no big deal).
Q: Which mounting option works with my Electromatic Pro Jet with Gretsch mini-humbuckers?
A: Installing TV Jones pickups in your Pro Jet is a semi-complex modification. If you're up for the challenge, Here's what you'll need:
- TV Classic Neck Pickup (no ears-short screws)
- TV Classic Bridge Pickup (no ears-short screws) or
- TV Classic Plus Bridge Pickup (no ears-short screws)
- 2 Silver Gretsch Bezels
- 8 Gretsch Bezel mounting screws
All of the above parts are available in our online store.Click here to get your parts.
Additional parts you may need:
- 2 Bottom wood shims
- 4 side filler blocks
- 2 - 1" x 3" compression rubber pads

Q: Are the stock Electromatic pro-jet mini-humbucker pickup covers the same size as DeArmond (Dynasonic) pickup covers?
