Power'Tron

Introducing the Power'Tron—the ultimate marriage of twang, fatness, sparkle and warmth.

The Power'Tron was born out of our desire to create a Filter'Tron-sized pickup with a strong midrange presence and high output, while still retaining the famous sparkle and bass-note clarity of our TV Classic.

At the heart of the Power'Tron bridge model are two extra-tall bobbins, allowing for more winds of standard-gauge wire. Single treble notes are reproduced with a full, midrange fatness, while bass notes twang out deep and clear. Overall, the tone is remarkably close to a fifties PAF humbucker, blended with a zing and twang that is all Gretsch®.

Our matched Power'Tron neck model uses standard bobbins (to retain a 5/8" cover height), overwound with standard-gauge wire. The resulting tone is slighty darker and hotter than a TV Classic neck, scooping on an extra helping of thick, buttery goodness.

So, you ask, how is the Power'Tron bridge model different from the TV Classic Plus? Well, the Power'Tron has a tone that is fat and full — the result of tall coils wound with standard wire. The TV Classic Plus is more like a vintage Filter'Tron pickup with extra-attitude — this due to more turns of thinner wire on a short bobbin.

The Power'Tron neck model uses standard .380" pole-to-pole spacing, while the Power'Tron bridge features a pole-to-pole spacing of .406" for optimum string separation and output. All Power'Tron models are wax saturated to help eliminate microphonic feedback. Each pickup comes with mounting screws and complete installation instructions.

Th’ Legendary Shack*Shakers are a four-man wrecking crew from the South whose explosive interpretations of the blues, punk, rock and country have made fans, critics and legions of potential converts into true believers.
News Of The World called them "The maddest, baddest, most outrageous band in America... a rockabilly version of the Sex Pistols".

Guitarist David Lee leads the pack with an explosive style that is nothing short of awe-inspiring. So much so that Gretsch guitars has created a custom David Lee Model! The G6136 David Lee, Limited Edition was unveiled at the 2008 Winter NAMM Show. To celebrate, the band played a live set that blew the doors off the Fender/Gretsch showroom.

The guitar is a beauty. An aged white hollow-body designed to David's exacting specs that we're proud to say includes a set of TV Jones Power'Tron pickups in the P'Tron mounting option. Here's what David has to say about TV Jones pickups:

"To me, TV Jones takes EVERYTHING that is desirable about vintage pickups, adds loads of bark and bite, and gives you an unique, complex tone that will really cut through in a mix. He also disposes of errant crackles and radio reception that is inherent with the older units. His understanding of magnet alloys and pole position is peerless and he truly can customize the pickups to get exactly the sound you are looking for. I've used everything from his "Classics" all the way to the roar of the "Powertrons" and can honestly say, no other pickup comes close to the tone and versatility that these offer."
